Islam and Co-existence Project
The aim of the programme was to enhance the capacity of Muslim religious leaders of influence (Ulema) in the East to become role models and agents of change in selected conflict areas for proactive engagement of the Muslim community in national co-existence and development. 200 (comprising 20%) of the district’s Ulema were partnered, by engaging them on discourses around mainstream Islamic thought on co-existence and community development with modern learning tools. The leaders comprised Ulemas who taught in Madrasahs, those who were on Mosque Boards, and leaders who preach Friday sermons.
